The four Vietnamese monasteries of the Subiaco Congregation (Thien An, Thien Hoa, Thien Binh and Thien Phuoc) are celebrating the 70th anniversary of the foundation of Thien An with a Jubilee Year which will run from 10th June 2009 to 10th June 2010. The Holy See has granted a special Plenary Indulgence to pilgrims visiting the Vietnamese monasteries during the Holy Year Jubilee celebrations.
In May of this year Thien Hoa regained its status as an independent Conventual Priory after many years as a dependent house of Thien An as a consequence of the war.
Young monk drowns in Mexico
09.07.09 Br Odilon Hernandez Matali, aged 26, drowned in an accident near the monastery of Santa Maria y Todos los Santos in Mexico.
He had been visiting the waterfalls with members of his family and apparantly fell in and drowned.
Br Odilon made his solemn profession in 2007.
New Abbess of Oosterhout
On 31st July 2009 Sr Martha Verstraeten was elected Abbess of Onze Lieve Vrouwe Abdij, Oosterhout, in the Netherlands.
